Europe's suncare market is climbing fast. According to data from Circana's six largest markets — France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK — total retail sun care is now worth roughly €1.6bn ($1.8bn), up 11.6% year-on-year.
From holiday buy to daily routine
Prestige in-sun SPF across the EU's five biggest markets grew 20% in value in Q1 2026, one of the year's least sunny stretches — evidence of genuine year-round demand.

The category's centre of gravity is moving from beach to bathroom shelf. Dermatologist-led messaging, public-health campaigns, and TikTok and Instagram are normalising daily SPF, particularly among younger, skincare-focused shoppers.
Growth is not only happening at the premium end of the market. Consumers are actively seeking products that balance efficacy, skincare benefits, and affordability, creating significant opportunities for both prestige and accessible brands.
"SPF is no longer viewed by consumers as something reserved for holidays or periods of sunny weather," said Emma Fishwick, UK account director at Circana. "Growth is not only happening at the premium end of the market. Consumers are actively seeking products that balance efficacy, skincare benefits, and affordability, creating significant opportunities for both prestige and accessible brands."
